Phoebe is doing good. She's really sleepy though which is making feeding difficult. My whole life right now is spent trying to nurse her and each "feeding" takes about 2 hours. It's frustrating but she's doing a little better each day. We took her to the ped today, she weighs 5 lbs 6 oz now so she hasn't lost too much and hopefully will start gaining soon. She's jaundice but not too bad.

John insisted that Phoebe's onesie was for him and just had to wear it. Silly boy.

Announcing

Phoebe Margaret Josephine
July 22, 2008 9:50 pm
6 lbs 3 oz. 19 inches

I went to the OB on Tuesday and was 3cm and 80% but it was otherwise a boring appointment. Then at 5:30 my water broke (when I was actually not having contractions) but with my history we knew to head straight to the hospital anyway. We got there and waited forever for a room and by 7pm I was contracting but only every 10 minutes or so. The contractions quickly picked up and while the first test confirmed my water had broke my OB (over the phone of course) said it didn't count because of the lubricant used earlier when he checked me in the office. So they wanted to do a spec exam to test for fluid, by this time though my contractions were already every two minutes and a minute long and getting painful fast so the last thing I wanted was a spec exam. So they agreed to just swab some fluid and test that, it came back negative. I was pissed because I was clearly in hard labor and just wanted to get into a delivery room and out of triage. I said just check me and if I'm dilating then I must be in labor but they said they couldn't do it before the spec because they'd need lubricant (you know the thing that got us in this mess in the first place) but I assured them no extra lubricant would be needed and finally they checked me (4cm) and of course fluid gushed everywhere when they did and they immediately got me a room. On the way to my room we saw my OB so he came over and checked me too, I was now 6cm and they called the anesthesiologist. I told him my labors are fast so he did a spinal/epidural and the relief was so nice, the first time I've actually gotten pain relief in labor. OB checked again and I was 7cm so they started to set up the room. By now I couldn't feel my legs at all so I had no idea how I'd know the baby was coming and I was sure it wouldn't be long. We waited a little bit (maybe 20 minutes tops) and my nurse checked and I was complete and baby was crowning. When she said it was time to push I joked and said I think I'll just sit here and let her slide out, the nurse looked at me and said "I think that's exactly what might happen." My OB came in, I pushed twice and she was out. Whole thing was over in under 3 hours. She got a bit grunty with her breathing so she went to the nursery for awhile but came back within a few hours.

Bella's pretties

Bella's so cute, she's very well rounded and seems to have an equal interest in girly things as well as boyish stuff. She loves purses, necklaces and jewlery as well as trucks and monsters. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not at all into the girly things though but I love seeing her enjoy them. So anyway we got her ears pierced this weekend. I had no age set to let her get them done really but I knew she'd love them and not mess with them either, she's really good about leaving things alone (especially when she's afraid of messing it up.) She did really good but it was definitely a challenge to get the second one pierced after she knew the pain of the first, but within a few minutes was smiling and happy as can be. She keeps going into the bathroom to look at them in the mirror, she calls them her pretties. I'm just hoping she didn't get my sensitive skin though, so far they look great.

John's also well rounded and wants the girly things Bella gets. He's always begging me to brush his hair like Bella and wants to wear headbands. Purses are also very cool in his opinion. Funny thing though after Bella got her ears done (and was still crying) John loudly announced to everyone in the store that "it's NOT John's turn, it's not John's turn."

Oh and as of today (Monday) we have officially lived in our house 1 year. We sure love it too. And I'm now 36 weeks, anytime baby girl wishes to grace us with her presence is fine with me. Totally beyond miserable as the contractions continue. And I thought I had avoided a 3rd trimester relapse of HG but apparently not it just came late. Despite taking meds around the clock today I'm still miserable and unable to eat or drink (or sleep.)

35 weeks

Okay so it's long past time for a pregnancy update I suppose. Just been too miserable to actually put anything in writing. My frequent contractions have progressed into prodromal labor and it's really wearing me out. Everything I've read about it says that the contractions should be no more than a minute long and will rarely be more frequently than 7-10 minutes apart. I guess I'm just lucky or something because mine have topped out at over 2 minutes long each and as close together as every 3 minutes, rarely further than 5 minutes apart. This goes on for hours each day and needless to say I am so tired. Baby dropped 2 days ago as well so my hips are now killing me. And as of tonight we can add losing my mucous plug and bloody show to the list of signs. Looking at it all written down it'd seem the end is very near but after my pregnancy with Bella I know this could continue on for weeks.

Anyway all this is causing cervical change just at a very slow rate. My OB hopes I can make it at least one more week. I'm a week further now than when John was born so we're definitely doing good and I'm getting more confident that we'll avoid a NICU stay this time. My OB's advice is to rest more, I just have to laugh at that since I already spend 23 hours a day on the couch (the other hour usually in the bathtub.)

In the pool

John who is normally terrified of water and getting wet has recently fallen in love with the pool. Ever since we stuck the little slide into the pool and made him slide down it once he's been having a blast in the water. It's so hot out during the day now that they can only play outside if they're in the pool, otherwise they overheat.
