The end of the Lagoon year

Tomorrow is the last day Lagoon will be open this year.  So on Saturday we went to our last visit of the year.  And Corey got a free ticket at work so we took John's best friend with us.  The kids all had lots of fun.

John resisted going on all the kiddie rides.  Complaining before every one that he's not a baby.  Then I'd make him go and he had a blast every time.  The pictures prove it.

John's Teeth

So less than a week before the dentist appointment John's tooth came out.  With a lot of help on my part because he didn't want to get it pulled at the dentist.

He was very excited and picked an art book for his losing a tooth treat.

Then the day before the dentist appointment his other adult tooth popped up behind the baby tooth just next to the one he lost.  Perfect timing if you ask me.  So he still ended up getting a tooth pulled.  This baby tooth was not even a tiny bit loose, so it would have been a long time before it fell out on its own.

And for his losing a tooth treat this time he picked baby dolls.  He is very into playing with dolls lately.  And we finally found a boy baby.

1/3 of the way done

We're on week 13 in school and are now more than 1/3 of the way through the year.  My biggest challenge is Phoebe.  She's turned into a total butt and I'm about to stop all preschool with her until she can learn to behave.  She wants me to spend all school time teaching her, doesn't ever want to wait her turn and then throws a fit when I try to do something with her because it's not what she wants.  I'm not playing that game with her, preschool is optional.

Anyway, we finally moved from addition to subtraction in math.  I was very nervous for John because he was still struggling a little with adding.  Turns out he better at subtraction and has been having no trouble.  Bella on the other hand isn't getting it as easily as she did addition.

Last week we learned about tally charts and bar graphs.  So I had the kids go around the block and make a tally chart of all the different vehicles in the neighborhood.  Then they came home and made bar graphs.  They really enjoyed it.

John is starting to enjoy reading a little more.  Actually I think he's just a little more motivated since the Pizza Hut Book It program started back up.  But his comprehension is really improving.

Today we made our own fishing set.  The kids love the toy ones at the store and we had lots of magnets in our science kit.  Plus the neighbor kids are out of school for fall break so we wanted something fun to do with friends.

Bella Turns Eight

I can't believe my baby is eight.  It doesn't seem possible.  We celebrated some over the weekend and then finished up today.

Saturday we got her cake.  We decided to switch things up and got an ice cream cake this time.  Everyone enjoyed it.

Her newest interest is Monster High.  She didn't actually own anything Monster High until her birthday though.  She got a Monster High shirt.

John

Here's an updated on my favorite little boy.  John is the sweetest thing.  And while he was once my most difficult child in the past six months he has become my easiest.  I knew the girls would eventually become more difficult but they've jumped into it a little sooner than I expected.

He's still a huge Ghostbuster fan.  He found a Ghostbuster costume at the Halloween store and of course picked it out.  He tells everyone his name is Egon.

He finally got to ride on the Sky Coaster at Lagoon today.  He loved it.

He still hasn't lost any teeth yet.  But he has had an adult tooth grow in behind his baby tooth like Bella had.  He's headed to the dentist later this month so I imagine they'll pull it then.

And on Friday he finally got 100% on his math test for the first time ever.  He's been working very hard at math.  The kids will be finishing up 1st grade math in December and starting 2nd grade (since we restarted a new curriculum at the end of 1st grade.)  At this rate they should be all caught up by the start of 3rd grade.

Pogo Stick

We bought Bella a pogo stick as an early birthday present.  We gave it to her early so she could get more use out of it before it gets too cold outside.  She loves it.  She now spends almost every minute outside hopping on it.  She likes to have me count and keep record of how many times she can hop before she falls off.  Her current record as is 64.

And now as of 4:00pm the record is 163 hops.

School

School's going great around here.  We're on week 11 and the kids are enjoying themselves.  Bella has turned into a reading machine lately.  She finished a chapter book she was reading, read another entire chapter book and then started on the third all in one day earlier this week.

We're enjoying the last bit of nice weather here.  Fall has definitely arrived.  Not looking forward to being stuck inside all winter at all.

I ordered precorders for the kids.  They enjoy them but I'm not sure I have the patience to actually teach them to read music.  We'll see.  I keep hoping one of them will magically teach themselves to play the piano one day like I did.

Hazel loves books too.  I'm always finding her with one.  I keep telling her not to take the school ones but she still seems to like them the best.

I think science is my favorite thing to teach.  It's so much more interesting than history and english.

John is not as against running as he used to be.  He even does it voluntarily sometimes.  Bella LOVES to run, she runs all the time just for fun.

And lastly we starting reading this book.  My 3rd grade teacher read it to my class when I was a kid and I remember loving it.  We're about halfway through and the kids are also loving it.  My 3rd grade teacher read us a lot of books and I've got a few more from then that I plan on getting and reading this year.
