Christmas 2010

The kids enjoyed their gifts this year.  My favorite part was watching Phoebe open her presents.  She was so excited when she got one, but never really cared if it was her turn yet or how many she had.  If only they stayed that way every year.

More Knitting

So I'm still knitting.  I've found it rather addictive.  It's perfect for my alone time in the evenings after the kids go to bed, and I can watch tv while I do it.  So now that I've made like seven hats and nobody in the house needs anymore I've moved on to mittens.  I tried this pattern out the other day and actually ended up with a mitten.  I've only made two so far (that don't even match) but they don't take long to make.

9 Months

It's hard to believe that Hazel is 9 months old.  She'll be having her birthday before we know it.  She's not made any big developmental milestones in the last month.  Still crawling, but not really any faster than before.  Not pulling up to stand or anything like that yet.  She does steal food now.  I know all babies do but she's not like any of our others, you take your attention off her for a spilt second and your whole plate is gone.  And while her top two teeth are bulging like crazy (and have been for awhile now) they still have not broken through.

Sesame Street Live

0054

It's no secret that Phoebe LOVES Elmo (and much to my delight she loves Ernie too) so a few weeks ago I decided to check online and see if Sesame Street Live would be in our area anytime.  It turns out there was a show in town just two weeks away.  It landed right on our 7th wedding anniversary, what better way to celebrate?  So we got a babysitter for the other kids and took Phoebe last friday.

It was awesome and she loved it.  Of course the first time Elmo left the stage (so others could sing) she got so mad and made her angry face demanding Elmo come back.  And she danced and danced until she could hardly stand up.

Knitting

It took about 10 years but I finally learned to knit.  Turns out I was making an incredibly stupid mistake.  So anyway with it being winter and all I've been practicing by making hats for the kids.

The first was for Hazel.  I just did a flat rectangle and then joined the sides for this one since I still didn't know what I was doing.

Then I learned to knit in the round and made this one for John. Though I didn't decrease at the top, just tied it together so the top was bulky and I don't like the way the colors pooled. It's the same yarn as Hazel's but doesn't look nearly as good.

Then yesterday I decided to try my first pattern for an earflap hat. For a first try it turned out pretty good, and actually fits. And luckily the colors did not pool with this yarn.

and it fits Phoebe and John too, so I can just follow the same pattern to make them some

Ornaments

Every year we buy each of the kids a new ornament.  I love looking at the old ones and still have a bunch of mine from when I was a kid.  John and Bella's first few years we bought some from a set that had one for each year, but they discontinued it when Phoebe was born so we had to come up with something new.  So now each year we get them one that is related to something they are interested in that year.  In the past Bella has gotten Winnie the Pooh, and John got John Deere etc.  So here's this year's.

Bella picked How To Train Your Dragon of course.  She LOVES the movie and all things dragon now.

John got this cute little Fisher-Price airplane.  Which is an older version of his favorite toy aka "Jeff."

Phoebe got Toy Story.  I couldn't find an Elmo and we recently discovered she loves Toy Story almost as much as Elmo.

Then this one for Hazel, as well as one I made with her handprint.
