Toothless

Bella finally lost a top tooth.  I love little kids with their top teeth missing, it's so cute.  She was super afraid to let me pull this one, so the adult tooth was already visible by the time it came out.  So I probably won't get to enjoy it for long.  I want one of mine to lose both top teeth at the same time and stay that way for awhile.

Oh and she wants to be called Toothless now.

Haircut

Phoebe has wanted short hair for a long time.  She got tired of waiting and took matters into her own hands a few weeks ago.  She found some scissors and cut her hair (and her hand in the process.)

And trust me when I say it looks much better in this picture than it did in real life.  Once the hair got moved around it never looked right again.

She was rather pleased with herself.  But it was not nearly as short as she wanted it.  The next day she once again found scissors (we have a lot) and went at it again, this time on the sides.  So I fixed it up enough to get her to leave it alone.

Then a few days later we went and got the haircut she really wanted.

I like it and more importantly so does she.  And best of all no more screaming fits over getting her hair brushed.  Hers was always tangled horribly.

We're still alive

I hate winter, with a passion.  Being stuck inside with 4 kids all winter long is pure torture and I'm simply trying to survive.  As a result there really hasn't been much of anything to share.

Anyway the holidays are upon us, even though I'm so not into it at all this year.  I try to make the kids a few homemade gifts each year and this year the theme is quilts.  I started off making them little doll quilts and may have become slightly addicted and gotten a little carried away.

So John's doll quilt.  And yes John is very into playing with dolls

Then I decided to go a little bigger and made a small quilt for Hazel

Then I found this Berenstain Bears fabric for Phoebe.  Or as she calls them the Dancing Bears

When I asked Bella what she wanted for a quilt she said Roy G. Biv.  Doesn't get much easier than that.  I made hers in one day.

Deciding on fabric for John was harder.  Then I found the perfect thing.  All his favorite colors with robots and gears on them.  And it matches his room.

Then I ran out of kids and got bored.  I made one for me that I'm not too in love with, Phoebe stole it for now because she doesn't know I've made her one.  So then I decided to make one for my sister.  I planned on it being a lap size quilt but messed up on the math and ended up buying twice as much fabric as I needed (the half square triangles confused me.)  So it ended up being twin size.

About 25% of the way through I was feeling like I had bit off way more than I could chew.  And with Yule getting closer I felt the need to get it done.  I'm happy to say it was so worth it, it turned out awesome.  I had a really hard time wrapping it up and sending it away.

This ended up being my favorite block, which kind of surprised me because I'm not really a fan of polka dots.

And this is probably my second favorite

And I adore the backing fabric

And I'm knitting a rug out of the tiny fabric scraps that would have otherwise been thrown away

And this one was knit out of old t-shirts
